Winnipeg School Division is pleased to announce eight students are recipients of the 2024 Manitoba Indigenous Youth Achievements Awards.
Athletic Senior — Kaden J. Traverse, Grant Park high School Graduate
Athletic Junior — Waasayahbetong (Waasayah) Munro-Soldier, Elmwood High School
Community/Volunteerism Junior — Phoenix River Harper, Argyle Alternative High School
Personal Achievement Senior — Julie Frost, Villa Rosa
Personal Achievement Junior — Aiden Kirkness, Kelvin High School
Health South — Zoe Quill, Daniel McIntyre Collegiate Institute Graduate
Employment in a Traditional Field — Gage Bloomfield-Laliberty, Tec Voc High School
Culinary Arts — Samiah Truong-Basarowich, Tec Voc High School
The 30th Annual Manitoba Indigenous Youth Achievement Awards Gala celebration to be held at the Victoria Inn on Nov 20. 2024.
MIYAAs are presented to 18 outstanding Indigenous youth between the ages of 16 and 24 excelling in a variety of categories from cultural to academic. An additional award will be presented to a youth to commemorate the 30th Anniversary of MIYAA. The recipients are chosen by a committee of Indigenous peers from the community. Since their inception, the MIYAAs have given out 396 awards, thousands of dollars in scholarships through the generosity of many sponsors and reached over 1600 attendees annually.
