Remembering The Honourable Murray Sinclair
November 15, 2024
Our community and our country have lost a remarkable leader with the passing of The Honourable Murray Sinclair. A voice of justice, grace, and unbreakable hope, Murray Sinclair brought people together, guiding us with a deep confidence in the future. His work, from the Aboriginal Justice Inquiry to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, helped illuminate truths that continue to shape our journey toward healing and unity.
“As a kid growing up in Winnipeg, I remember his leadership during the Aboriginal Justice Inquiry. And his leadership through the TRC’s work brought people together. He did not divide. He was the ultimate elevator, even when surrounded by haters.” – Matt Henderson.
“We have lost a critical voice. In the coming weeks, let’s pause and honour his legacy by introducing our learners to his life’s work and significance.”
Whether in classrooms, offices, or programs, let’s encourage students to reflect on what it means to be historically significant and the impact of his vision for reconciliation. Murray Sinclair’s message and mission will always remain alive in all of us.
