National Week for Truth and Reconciliation

This week, our school is coming together for the National Week for Truth and Reconciliation (September 23rd-27th), fostering important conversations around reconciliation and the legacy of residential schools.

On Tuesday, students engaged with the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action, selecting one to focus on and reflecting on how we, as individuals and a community, can put it into action.

On Wednesday, students participated in a sacred fire ceremony, placing orange t-shirt cutouts along a path leading to the sacred fire. These t-shirts represent their chosen Calls to Action and their commitment to reconciliation. Grandfather Vern shared teachings on the Fall Equinox and the Harvesting season, while the Tec-Voc drum group performed, accompanied by two dancers.

On Friday, the posters will be replaced outside, recreating the path, leading to a serving of Three Sisters soup and bannock for all. We encourage students to walk the path of reconciliation, reflecting on the signs and the journey we are all part of.

Together, we continue to affirm that Every Child Matters.
