United Way Youth Leaders in Action

Winnipeg Jets Alumni and Friends Hockey Scholarship

Deadline: April 10, 2024

Award Amount: $2,500 each to a male and female hockey player

Who can apply?

The criteria for this award would include:

  • Must be a graduating grade 12 students pursuing post-secondary education
  • On-ice skills and achievements, as well as off-ice activities including: leadership in school and community, participation in school and community activities
  • Mentorship of fellow/sister athletes and students
  • One letter of reference is required to accompany the application
  • Minimum academic average of 70%
  • Applications will be evaluated by a committee made up of ex NHL players

What will I have to do?

  • Each team is asked to nominate a player to be considered for this scholarship. If you would like to be considered, speak to your coach

Addiction Resource Scholarship

Deadline: April 12, 2024

Award Amount: First Place $1,000, Runner Up $250

Who can apply?

  • Be a student pursuing a college or university degree (associate, bachelor’s, master’s, doctorate) or a trade certification in a technical college
  • Be enrolled full-time at a post-secondary institution

  • Be 18 years or older at the time of entry


What will I have to do?

  • Write an original essay, no longer than 1,200 words, about the connection between substance use and mental health among college students.

Canadian Hard of Hearing Association Scholarship

Deadline: April 12, 2024

Award Amount: Four awards worth $1,000, one worth $1,500 and one worth $2,000 

Who can apply?

  • Applicants to this Scholarship Program must be either hard of hearing, deafened or oral deaf. Support documentation is required
    • Hard of hearing: a person with any level of hearing loss, from mild to profound, whose primary method of communication is the spoken language
    • Deafened: a person with a profound level of hearing loss acquired in adulthood (after learning oral communication)
    • Oral deaf: a person with a profound level of hearing loss, occurring congenitally or with an onset early in life, whose primary method of communication is the spoken language
  • Eligible applicants may be first-time or returning post-secondary students, registered in a full-time program at a recognized College or University. Applicants must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident/landed immigrant, convention refugee or a protected person living in Canada, as defined in the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.
  • Applications will be judged by a number of criteria including academic achievement, determination to cope with hearing loss, and community involvement

Peak of the Market Bursary

Deadline: April 15, 2024

Amount: Two bursaries, each worth $2,000

Who can apply?

  • Be accepted to enter or already be enrolled in full-time studies in an agriculture and/or food science bachelor or diploma program at an accredited Western Canadian university or accredited college (Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, British Columbia)
  • Use the bursary within the academic year it is awarded
  • Provide all of the information and documentation as outlined in the application process
  • Preference will be given to applicants that are pursuing studies that are applicable to the commercial potato and vegetable industries in Western Canada
  • Self-identify financial need

What will I have to do?

  • Attach proof of successful completion of your last level of education (High school or University/College). A report card or a transcript can be provided as a PDF
    • First-year students only, attach your acceptance letter to an Ag or Food Science program. Upload as PDF
  • Attach a recent resume including education, employment and volunteer, community and school activities. Upload as PDF
  • Attach at least two reference letters (teacher, employer, community leader). Upload as PDF
  • Attach a one-page vision essay (500 words max). Upload as PDF. Your essay must describe:
    • your current involvement in a farming operation (if applicable)
    • your interests in the Agriculture/ Edible Horticulture/ Food Science industry
    • why you chose this area of study
    • how you plan or would like to be involved in the industry in the future
    • and finally, please self-identify why this bursary would be of benefit to you.

Canadian Scholarship Trust: Founders' Awards

Deadline: April 16, 2024

Amount: 14 wards, each worth $7,000

Who can apply?

  • Be a CST beneficiary
  • Have completed high school level education, or the equivalent, by the fall of 2023
  • Enrolling or enrolled in an eligible undergraduate program in an Canadian institution, attending in Fall 2023
  • Demonstrate financial need
  • Priority will be given to students who are the first generation in their family to attend post-secondary*

Canadian Scholarship Trust: Bursary Awards

Deadline: April 16, 2024

Amount: 50 bursaries, each worth $6,000

Who can apply?

  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or protected person
  • Have completed high school level education, or the equivalent, by the fall of 2023
  • Be accepted to a post-secondary program at an eligible Canadian institution, attending in Fall 2023
  • Demonstrate financial need
  • Be the first generation in their family to attend post-secondary

Winnipeg School Board Bursaries

Deadline: April 25, 2024 *must be sent directly to the Superintendents Department, attention of Valerie Church

Award Amount: TBD

Who can apply?

  • Bursaries are awarded by the Winnipeg Public School Board to a limited number of resident students who are currently in Grade 9, 10 or 11
  • Resident students taking academic courses in any secondary school in Winnipeg School Division (WSD)
  • Students who will be continuing academic courses at the next grade in a WSD school with resident status
  • Students who cannot continue their high school courses without assistance, or who can only continue with undue hardship to their families
  • Students whose parents or legal guardians reside within the boundaries of WSD
  • Students who will have not reached their 21st birthday by the opening date of the school year (Sept. 6, 2022)
  • Students whose performance and attendance during the school year must be satisfactory in the opinion of the principal and staff

What will I have to do?

You will need to include the following in your application package:

  • Student Application - completed in full and includes the student and parent signatures
  • Teacher Recommendation – completed by the appropriate teacher
  • Applicant’s mark statement - the previous school year and the last reporting period this year; student can receive this information from their guidance counsellor or school office.

Margaret Crawford Bursaries

Who can apply?

  • Resident students taking vocational courses at either Tec-Voc or R.B. Russell Vocational High Schools only
  • Students who will be continuing vocational courses at the next grade level in a WSD school with resident status. Vocational education students are those taking 50% non-academic courses

Fountainhead Essay Contest

Deadline: April 25, 2024

Award Amount: Up to $5,000

Who can apply?

  • Entrant must be in the 11th or 12th grade for at least one semester during the school year in which the contest is held.
    • The school year is considered to run August through July of the following year but ARI reserves the right to make exceptions to this rule, on a case-by-case basis, for students with nonstandard school years

What will I have to do?

  • Contest is open to students worldwide, except where void or prohibited by law.
  • Essays must be written in English only

Canadian Hearing Services National Scholarship

Deadline: April 26, 2024

Amount: Scholarships worth $3,000 a year for full time students and $1,000 a year for part-time students. Number of scholarships will be based on number of qualified applicants.

Who can apply?

  • Be Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada
  • Have documented hearing loss of 50dB or greater, pure tone average, in each ear (50dB or greater in the left ear AND 50dB or greater in the right ear)
  • Be 17 years of age or older and attending an accredited post-secondary institution in the Fall of 2023 as first-time or returning students

What will I have to do?

Eligibility is based on the overall assessment of the following application materials:

  • Completed and signed scholarship application form
  • Photocopy proof of Canadian citizenship or permanent residency with date of birth
  • At least one audiogram documenting hearing loss of 50dB or greater, pure tone average, in each ear (50dB or greater in the left ear AND 50dB or greater in the right ear)
  • Proof of Fall 2022 acceptance to an accredited post-secondary institution
  • Community Involvement checklist, as outlined in Section 2 of application form 
  • Two Referral Forms submitted via email by your references as outlined in Section 3 of application form
  • Typed 12-pt font, 250-word essay in English or French, or YouTube link or Dropbox shared link (NO Google Drive shared links) to a 2-minute video in ASL/LSQ, as outlined in Section 4 of application form

Anthem Essay Contest

Harvest Moon Society Scholarship

Who can apply?

  • to youth aged 17-21 who reside within the boundaries of Manitoba for furthering their knowledge or education related to regenerative agriculture, sustainable food systems, and environmental stewardship.
    • Examples of further education may include, but are not limited to: tuition at an educational institution, and/or registration for a course or conference

What will I have to do?

  • Answer the following question via an essay, video, slideshow or other format in which you feel comfortable, but please limit your application to the equivalent of two written pages or a two-minute video/audio recording.

Sons of Norway Foundation in Canada: Post-Secondary and Trade Bursaries

Deadline: Various Deadlines

Award Amount: $400-$800

Who Should Apply?

  • Canadian students pursuing first undergraduate degree or diploma at a Canadian post-secondary institution
  • Selection committee will consider financial need, community involvement, connection to the Norwegian community, interest in Norwegian culture, and affiliation with Sons of Norway
    • *Note: Candidates who can show proof that 20% of their post-secondary course load relates to Norwegian Language, History, or Culture are also eligible for the Sons of Norway Bjarne and Karel Thorshaug Bursary for Norwegian Studies (see website for details)
