École Riverview School hosted a successful Rhyme Time event on November 26. This engaging program brought together parents and toddlers for a fun-filled morning of rhymes, songs, and stories.

The Rhyme Time program is more than just a fun activity; it's a crucial step in a child's early education. By exposing young children to language and literacy at an early age, the school lays the foundation for future academic success.

As an École Riverview Learning Support Teacher, Alyssa shared, "My son and I had an awesome time at Rhyme Time! The connections with other families in the school and community are invaluable, and it's fun seeing everyone come together. Plus, it's a great way to boost pre-literacy skills in a playful, engaging way. We're already looking forward to the next one—more laughs, more friends, and more rhymes!"

The Rhyme Time event helped build connections with other parents and families in the Riverview community. Sharing experiences and tips can be incredibly beneficial for parents.

Sara, a parent, expressed her enthusiasm, saying, "My social butterfly baby Violet just loves Rhyme Time. She's one of the youngest there and is learning how to crawl, sit up, and play from the other little ones. We love singing songs and seeing all the families together!"

The program includes sensory activities, such as engaging hand motions, storytelling, and music. These activities stimulate young minds and develop critical cognitive skills.

One popular activity was the "Goldfish Song," in which children and parents imitated the swimming motions of goldfish, enhancing their motor skills and supporting their rhythmic movement. Check out their cuteness in the WSD Instagram reel here

Vice Principal Stéphane Gautron shared, "My daughter loved Rhyme Time with super teachers Alyssa and Anne at École Riverview School! She enjoyed rhyming and dancing and shed tears when it was time to go!"

The impact of Rhyme Time extends beyond the immediate event. It is a wonderful way to build a foundation for a lifelong love of learning while connecting with others in the community.

"The children that participate are babies and toddlers, ranging from a few months old to 2-3 years old. This program enhances community and connection and familiarizes children and families with the school. Rhyme Time offers numerous benefits for children and parents through singing, rhymes, and storytelling. These activities foster vocabulary growth, rhythm recognition, and a love for books and stories—all essential for success in school," said Cinzia Caputo, Principal of École Riverview School, highlighting the program's benefits.

"Parents and caregivers can connect, share experiences, and build relationships that create a strong sense of community. It's a great way to meet others who are navigating the same early childhood journey. We are so grateful for the continued participation of our families in this program and look forward to seeing even more children and parents join us. "

École Riverview School continues to provide young children a strong start through fun and educational activities.
