Wind Turbine Competition
November 28, 2024
Last month, four of DMCI’s very own grade 9 & 10 students had the pleasure of participating in the 2024 Model Wind Turbine Competition at Red River College.
The Wind Turbine Competition is a one-day competition that invites grade 9 and 10 students from various schools to participate and construct a wind turbine capable of generating electrical power. The competition provides an opportunity for students to develop teamwork, as well as challenging their creativity while simultaneously learning about energy.
Cassandra R., a student from DMCI who had taken part said that her team built a wind turbine that they were proud of and in turn, learned about the role of turbines and their importance in the development of renewable energy. She stated that even though the outcome wasn’t what they had hoped for, “it was still an amazing learning opportunity.”
All of DMCI’s participants mentioned that they had learned the importance of teamwork, not only from their teammates, but also from their competitors. From feeling a sense of community to gaining knowledge of new technology, they highly recommend future grade 9s and 10s to participate if given the chance.
Great job to Elissa D., Julia M., Jiann N., Cassandra R., and their wind turbine!
