DMCI students Impress at Gimli Film Festival

This past summer, students from Daniel McIntyre Collegiate Institute showcased their talent at the Gimli Film Festival’s Young Filmmakers Screening event, presenting two original films. Under the guidance of teacher Brendan Cwik, the students poured their creativity into their projects over several months.
Their first film, “Visionaries Through a Window,” captured the vibrant energy of a typical school day, weaving together music, art, and dance. Through innovative film techniques, it effectively conveyed the momentum and pressures that students face.
In contrast, “Friendly Competition” tackled a deeply personal and poignant story of loss, highlighting the how students connect to support one another.
One of the event's highlights was an onstage interview with former CBC host Terry McLeod, providing students with a unique opportunity to discuss their work and experiences.
Overall, the festival offered a rich experience for the students, enhancing their understanding and appreciation of filmmaking. They participated in industry sessions, film screenings, and a post-screening reception, marking a significant step forward for DMCI’s burgeoning film program.
