Cold Weather/Emergency School Closure

Students stay indoors for recess when the wind chill reaches -28 degrees Celsius.

The Superintendent makes the decision when emergency closures are needed.

In the event that it is necessary to close school due to severe weather conditions, announcements will be posted on the Winnipeg School Division home page.

Student Illness

Please call the school's absence system if your child will be absent.

Parents/Guardians should keep their child(ren) home when they are sick.  A sick child has a difficult time concentrating on school work and may pass their illness to other students or teaching staff. Also, keeping a sick child in for recess can be difficult for Faraday School to accommodate the extra supervision needed. There are times when students are unable to take part in outdoor recess because of injuries they have experienced. When this occurs, the children must bring a medical certificate and we will make provisions for them during recess. However, please note that children unable to participate in recess due to illness should remain at home to recover.

Chickenpox, Pink Eye, Rubella (German Measles) or other communicable diseases should be reported to the office and children should remain at home for the recommended amount of time (depending on the disease).

If you have questions, please call our Public Health Nurse at 204-940-2041.

Bus Cancellations

During the school year there may be times when school bus transportation is cancelled due to inclement weather or poor driving conditions, but schools will remain open. School bus transportation for all school divisions in the city of Winnipeg is cancelled when the wind chill reaches -45° C by 6:15 a.m. based on the Environment Canada readings at The Forks. The temperature readings can be found at Environment Canada website (http://www.weatheroffice.gc.ca).

When bus transportation is cancelled in the morning, it will not resume later in the day even if weather conditions improve.
