Dear Families,

I am happy to welcome you to the 2024-2025 school year. My name is Tazmeen Kabani, and I will be your child’s classroom teacher this year. Our goal is to meet the individual needs of every child while encouraging a strong sense of community and teamwork within the class.

I look forward to partnering with you for a wonderful school year! I am excited to get to know your child as we go through their learning journey together.

The following briefly overviews is a brief overview of our learning areas for this school year:

MATH

Students will continue to build confidence and competency in all areas of the math strands: Number Sense, Patterns and Relations, Shape and Space, and Statistics and Probability. Dreambox is a math resource available to Pinkham students. Students will use this interactive math program to reinforce their understanding of math concepts and to practice mathematic operations based on the outcomes of the Manitoba curriculum. Students will engage in Thinking Classrooms, where they will be working here they work in randomly selected groups to solve problems on vertical surfaces. Engaging in hands-on learning and interactive games will help students deepen their understanding of key math concepts. 

ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS

Students will continue to build confidence in their listening, speaking, viewing, writing, and reading skills. They will participate daily in Read to Self, Writer’s Workshop, and Word Work. We will use the 6 Traits of writing (ideas, organization, voice, word choice, sentence fluency, and conventions) as part of our daily writing activities. Additionally, students will engage in daily systematic and explicit phonics instruction to develop strong foundational literacy skills, including decoding, fluency, and comprehension.

SCIENCE/SOCIAL STUDIES

Through inquiry the inquiry process, students will develop skills and attitudes as they observe the natural and physical world around them. They will explore, observe, research and communicate their findings. In Social Studies, students will explore the big idea of Connecting and Belonging. Students will develop skills in Citizenship, managing information and ideas, and creative thinking. We will continue to learn Indigenous perspective and understanding as an integrated part of what we are learning.

HEALTH

Through the Second Step Program, students will develop the skills to manage and express their feelings and empathy. Students will develop the knowledge, skills, and attitude for a physically active and healthy lifestyle. We will continue to incorporate mindfulness throughout the day.

HOMEWORK

Students are expected to read daily. Reading with a family member allows provides an opportunity for you to become involved in your child’s learning and enjoy stories together. 

SEESAW

Students will be using the tool Seesaw to document their learning. Students will have the opportunity to create their own digital student portfolios. Students will be able to share their learning with their parents with their parents their learning.
